Episode 1 · Origin, Magic Rules, and a Few People
Before there were kingdoms, there were four Dragons, each ruling a continent and its people. Then one grew hungry. The Dragon we call Sleeping united his land with science and magic, devoured its people for power, and turned upon his siblings. The other three killed him, though the wound cost them their lives. Dying, they gave their power to chosen mortals. On one continent, those mortals became Hawk, Dove, and Raven. The hungry Dragon had no people left to inherit anything. He only sank into sleep. Now he stirs. The gods know, mortals do not, and the quiet rush toward larger, tighter nations may be the tremor of something old turning in its bed. Magic here has four languages. Divine magic is borrowed, not owned, soft in rule but steady in character. Raven bends shadow, deception, and change. Dove protects, senses death and identity. Hawk favors order, probability, the right door opening at the right moment. Old Magic belongs to places, traditions, and objects with a history of worthy use. It gathers legacy, but legitimacy matters. Alchemy and transmutation are fussier creatures, material science with no patience for substitutes. The exact ingredient matters, and the forbidden colonial mold is not merely mold, but a key. Martial arts belong to effort, open to anyone willing to train, and can feel wrongness, saaki, and the currents of life. All four kinds can sense magic at work, though not its source. Awareness matters too. You can resist magic with will, but only if you know it has found you. And when systems cooperate, they multiply: transmuted parchment, alchemical paint, an Old Magic divinatory deck, and a Dove-touched reader can become far more than paper and pigment. For stories, meet Rima, Raven’s newly gifted agent, learning to turn impossible movement into leverage. Meet Crown Princess Branka, towering, measured, and carrying both political authority and genuine empathy. And meet Echo, a mostly mechanical being who reads as a void to martial perception, something suspended where a life should have completed its passage. A sleeping god-beast, four kinds of power, and people trying to stay human inside the machinery of both. Until next time, sleep lightly.
